Create A New Timeline View For Calendars

Actions

Explain the problem as you see it

The current day view of the calendar is very limiting especially when it comes to time blocking. Not being able to quickly just expand a node to see details inside means that the calendar view is essentially a read only experience and not actually useful.

When working through my tasks on my calendar I want to be able to open each one and access information inside. This isn't necessarily to work inside that node, but I might have links I need to access, etc. I don't want to zoom into the node and then have to go back to see the full calendar.

I think we are lacking what I'm calling 'Timeline View' where we would be able to see the nodes in a timeline similar to the day calendar - but where the nodes act as normal nodes that can be expanded.

Why is this a problem for you?

Mostly it's a problem since switching to timeblocking my tasks. I like that all the tasks I schedule come up on my agenda because of the live search and I can move them around. But not being able to quickly get into the task or see the command buttons I have setup to move tasks between days is a real friction for me.

Suggest a solution

My suggestion is to create a new view called Timeline (or if it's better to replace the day view that could also work). It would look very similar to the current daily calendar view. But instead of the nodes looking like blocks they would look like real nodes that you can expand in line.

Here is how I envision it: https://www.loom.com/share/ba29ea0bc7724f69be900a8a5c39d7e6

Show Fields When In Tab View For Supertags

Actions

Explain the problem as you see it

My Supertags are usually a combination of two different types of things:

  1. Fields for structure data
  2. Related Searches - where I can bring up things related to the item.

I like to view the related searches as tabs as I think it's more aesthetically pleasing and easier to navigate. But at the moment I have to add a node called "Related Items" and then nest each search under that node and then view as tabs. I feel having a node just so I can create tabs is a bit redundant.

Why is this a problem for you?

Having an extra heading just so I can view the tabs seems redundant. I feel like I should be able to see fields even when I have turned tab view on for a supertag (or any node)

Suggest a solution

What I think should happen is if you switch the view of the Supertag itself to Tabs. The fields should show at the top, with any nodes showing as tabs beneath.

Below is how I have been doing it by creating a blank heading node (so the node stays open) and then configuring the tabs under that heading node. I'd like to remove that heading node altogether and just have the tabs show up under the fields.

Wrap Calendar Items When In Calendar View

Actions

Explain the problem as you see it

When viewing the calendar in month or week mode the item cards are only one line and you lost most of the context of the node name. This not only looks terrible but is hard to use as you can't see the whole node name.

Why is this a problem for you?

It makes me have to switch constantly between list mode and calendar mode which is frustrating and not productive.

Suggest a solution

Have the calendar item node name wrap in the calendar box so we can see the full node name. Or if that is not possible then when hovering have the node name pop up.

Loom Video Embed

Actions

Explain the problem as you see it

I use Loom quite a lot to record quick tutorials and send them to my team. In Tana Youtube videos get embedded by default, so they show up nicely and you can just click and play. But my Loom videos just sit there with a link. Loom is a very quick way to record and host videos compared to Youtube. So I don't want the extra step of having to upload videos to Youtube just so i can see the embed in Tana.

Why is this a problem for you?

My team uses Loom as a major part of communicating SOP's as well as a-sync communication. If Loom was able to be embedded it would make the usage far smoother than it is now.

Suggest a solution

Would love to see Loom embeds just like Youtube Embeds work right now.

Choose To Have Nodes With No Date In A Calendar View On The Right

Actions

Explain the problem as you see it

As someone who works on a larger screen, I find it annoying to drag nodes with no dates onto the calendar from the bottom of the screen. Quite often my lists are long and so there is a lot of scrolling up & down. I'd love to be able to dock undated nodes to the right.

Why is this a problem for you?

From a useability standpoint I find myself just not wanting to use the calendar view because dragging items from the bottom is an annoying process.

Suggest a solution

I would prefer to have an option where I can dock the nodes with no dates to the right of my calendar. Because I use a wider screen this makes much more sense for me (but I understand not everyone has a large screen too). So maybe an option: Dock to the bottom, Dock to the right?

Display or sort by Fields On Nodes Below Calendar

Actions

Explain the problem as you see it

I have a Tweet Studio where I have a bunch of tweets that I then want to go and schedule on a monthly calendar view. I can see the tweets not scheduled below the calendar - but I would like to see some of the fields i have set - Eg. Is it a tip tweet, engagement, workflow, etc.).

This matters to me because I want to balance out certain tweets on certain days.

It would be good to be able to turn on the node display feature on those nodes below the calendar.

Why is this a problem for you?

Right now I'm just dragging them onto the calendar to see the fields I want displayed and then moving them around - but it's not quite an elegant solution.

I really want to be able to just see the display | Filter | Sort on those nodes.

Suggest a solution

When you open the nodes that say s?? nodes with no dates also show the display settings for nodes like Display | Sort | Filter (probably can't use view because we are already in a view).

Format Date Fields in Build In Title

Actions

Explain the problem as you see it

With the new calendar feature & being able to add start & end dates it would be nice to be able to format how that looks when you use a date field in the Build In Title feature. It ends up being SUPER long if you have both a start & an end date. I would like to be able to choose wether I want to see the start date, end date, time or no time.

Why is this a problem for you?

Basically how I build my #meeting tag is that I use the build title from fields function. Before I just had the date which was nice & succinct. But now I have two dates, & two times because there is a start/end time in the date field.

It's not a problem, just not easy on the eyes.

Suggest a solution

Either be able to format it in the build title from field format.
OR (& this may be the better solution)
Be able to format the date at the field level by saying SHOW:

  • Start Date
  • Start Time
  • End Date
  • End Time

Possibly later you could then have a dropdown where you could choose other formats like short date, long date, etc.
