Add random feature to search nodes and a shuffle option to search results

Actions

Explain the problem as you see it

  1. Currently you can only pull random results in a field. This means that if you want to add serendipity to your process you would need to use this function on the daily page main content area. If for example you are using it to pull up one random instance of #inspiration so that you can be reminded of a different inspiring quote each day, this will creates a linked reference between the two. Over time the linked references on those nodes would become useless and bloated. They would be filled with every the time that you've just looked the node and you will have to dig through all of that noise to find all the times that you are actually linking to the node with a purpose.

  2. Searches have no random or shuffle function. Shuffle is powerful tool.

Why is this a problem for you?

  1. I would like to use the random results in multiple ways on my day node as it helps to pull up valuable items, ideas, and memories from the past and prevents them for just being forgotten. But if I do so my Tana will be cluttered with useless, low-signal connections between nodes.

  2. Serendipity is important. Having a shuffle function in searches allows you to surface items in a unique way each time instead of creating a static list. Static lists are not the solution for every use case. For example, I save hundreds of little detail ideas to add to my writing. A shuffle function would allow me to look through them in a manner that is conducive to creative action as opposed to endlessly scrolling one unchanged list, which in time cause snow-blindness.

Suggest a solution

  1. By adding the same random field functionality to live searches I could add a randomized search to my related content on the right. It would keep it out of the main content area. It would pull up something different every day, but because it's a search it would not embed it in the page and thus would not create a permanent link between the two nodes. If i want to create a link I can always do so by adding the node to my main content area. this would also allow it to collapsible so that after I looked at each search, I can then tuck them away for the day.

  2. add a shuffle button
