Hidden darn bullets and vertical lines

Actions

Explain the problem as you see it

bullets and vertical lines everywhere does not bode well for reading comprehension and retention

Why is this a problem for you?

This is a knowledge management tool not a task manager. I need to absorb the information written not the bullets and vertical silly guidelines. Main reason i never bothered to use Roam.

Suggest a solution

This is a simple problem to fix and Tana keeps ignoring this feature request. Capacities implemented the ability to remove bullets and vertical visual guidelines recently. Please allow the ability to turn off these features.

HIDE VERTICAL LINES & BULLET BLOCKS

Actions

Explain the problem as you see it

Tana feels like a task app.

Why is this a problem for you?

I'd like to use Tana as a note taking knowledge management tool. Read information as in any other kind of tool and not be bothered by vertical lines and bullet blocks. Bullet formatting functions as a list in the cognitive part of our brain.

Suggest a solution

Hide vertical lines and bullet blocks in the editor. Every outliner, task note taking app (Notion - excludes them all together, Capacities) has the ability to hide these two features.

Aesthetic & Cheap feel - why Tana won't survive long term!

Actions

Explain the problem as you see it

Tana feels oddly "loose" and inexpensive.

In today's age, the aesthetic aspect and user viewing experience are crucial factors that determine the survival of a new contender in the market. Just look at the statistics showing how poorly designed apps struggle despite having impressive features – many have either disappeared entirely or are barely staying afloat.

The design aspect will hinder this app from reaching its potential

Everything seems overly intrusive, particularly when it comes to writing and viewing within the outline editor. I won't even touch on the aesthetic appeal of the table, card, calendar view, and other panels. Essentially, everything looks and feels cheap and a bit too "Times New Roman" & Windowy 97. There's also the practicality side as well; the difficulty inputting fields in a database view is a nightmare. There's too many to list.

Why is this a problem for you?

If I'm the only one feeling this way please disregard..

Suggest a solution

You have a gem here but aim to refine the user interface (UI) and user experience (UX), making the application more snappy, visually appealing, intuitive, and less cluttered. IMHO if you don't take a series of design and functionality modifications you will be in trouble. You have Notion and Capacities as your go to examples.

Sincerely,

As a matter of personal opinion

cmd+z redo option extremely annoying

Actions

Explain the problem as you see it

When I use cmd+z to redo, it also takes into account functionailty of app.

Why is this a problem for you?

I write something or apply the wrong tag, reference. etc. Then, I do some toggles or zoom in different nodes or open different windows.

I then want to redo the wrong tag, or the written text, but before it gets to undoing the tag or the text, it also goes through the toggles and the window spaces before it undoes the tag, written text, etc

Suggest a solution

Have the cmd+z function like any other app. No one uses undoe to go through toggle or window pane history. I use undue function to correct an editing mistake.

Pinned Nodes hierarchical visualizastion (Notion-like functionality)

Actions

Explain the problem as you see it

how many pinned nodes can you have until viewing them becomes impractical? how much scrolling does one have to do after 50 pined nodes after x pinned nodes?

Why is this a problem for you?

I use pinned nodes to created buckets of categories to access quickly. One can created a pinned template as a workspace and drop references in there and categorize for pick access as you see fit. Then, lets assume 2 hierarchical level, categories can then be pinned

Suggest a solution

  1. Toggle option in the sidebar for Pinned and Workspace feature
  2. Allow hierachical visualization of the Pinned feature - similar to the workspaces toggling

Option to hide node supertags

Actions

Explain the problem as you see it

Very distracting when reading your notes and seeing all the supertags in every node.

Why is this a problem for you?

Note reading/taking should be the essence of any note app. The ability to organize via supertags is great (if not the most creative of any app); however, I need to see my notes free of clutter. God forbid one adds multiple supertags to a node.

Suggest a solution

The ability to hide node supertags

THE BASIC FOUR

Actions

Explain the problem as you see it

1) Pasting formatted text

2) Node Editing & Formating

  • Formatting multiple nodes at once (bold, italics, underline, strikethough, inline code, highlighting, etc)

  • allowing inline paragraph manipulation

  • the ability to dim bullet points for a more seamless reading experience

3) Regular tables

4) Multi colored text, multi colored highlights

Why is this a problem for you?

I hope this is a problem for everyone.

Like Steve Jobs once said:

"One of the things I've always found is that you've got to start with the customer experience and work backwards to the technology."

Tana's imprinted some unique concepts that has caught the attention of many. They are powerful enough to get people interested. Now keep people around and offer the basics!
