New Tana icons

Actions

Explain the problem as you see it

There is a single Tana icon with the tensor-shaped T and a black background.

Why is this a problem for you?

I would like there to be a fun selection of icons to choose from.

Suggest a solution

Tana could provide a few options of the icon with different background colors or themes. I think it would make Tana a little more fun in the dock and still keep the identity of Tana.

Default views for tags

Actions

Explain the problem as you see it

Most of the time we use the same view option to look at nodes of the same supertag. However, at the moment, they all default to the list view.

Why is this a problem for you?

I see myself having to manually change the view of my daily page every single day from the list view to the side view.

Suggest a solution

Under a given supertag's options, having the option to set the default view for all nodes with that supertag. This feature could help with the friction of not having your daily page (or any other node with a supertag) with your preferred view, making it easier to just type in Tana and not think about the structure.

Today button on side bar and keyboard shortcut should follow the current workspace

Actions

Explain the problem as you see it

The Today button and keyboard shortcuts take you to the default workspace. However, when you switch between workspaces the button and shortcut take you to the default workspace, leaving the workspace you may be working on.

Why is this a problem for you?

I basically cannot hide the sidebar because I need it to go to the daily notes page.

Suggest a solution

The button and shortcut should default to the workspace you're working with at the moment. If I'm writing on my personal workspace, I want the button to take me to the daily notes page of my personal workspace. If I'm writing on my work workspace, then I want to be taken to the daily notes page of my work workspace.

Ability to add HTML (interactive) images

Actions

Explain the problem as you see it

Currently, Tana only allows uploading 2D images. While this is great in many cases, it is subpar for research in many domains, where an interactive 3D image is necessary to do work. For instance, to get a full grasp of brain activity networks, one needs to look at a 3D volume image of the brain since 2D images only show a slice of the brain and hide important information to interpret the full picture. This feature would also allow the addition of interactive plots made with bokeh for example, which allow the user to hover over the points to access more information about the data. All in all, this feature would bridge two very important steps of knowledge management so they can be used together: interactive figures and note-taking.

Why is this a problem for you?

I cannot take notes referencing neuroimaging data using the whole brain. I am limited to selecting only a couple of slices of the brain, which severely limits the full picture.

Suggest a solution

To allow uploading images in the HTML format. To limit the amount of resources used to display these interactive images, a reload button could be shown next to the image. This way, the image would only be displayed when using the reload button. Tana could also limit the number of running views to 5 for instance to use fewer resources.

A couple of examples of these images that can be saved as HTML files would be:

  • Bokeh: https://docs.bokeh.org/en/latest/index.html
  • Plotly: https://plotly.com/python/
  • Nilearn: https://nilearn.github.io/stable/auto_examples/00_tutorials/plot_3d_and_4d_niimg.html#sphx-glr-auto-examples-00-tutorials-plot-3d-and-4d-niimg-py

New view: a plot of field values on a graph in the style of Excel

Actions

Explain the problem as you see it

When using fields for habit tracking, we currently have the calendar view to check the task has been done. However, this is not a great way to show progress. It would be so much better to have a plot (line, scatter, or bars) view that only works with numerical values for the Y axis, and that could take dates or categorical variables on the X axis.

Why is this a problem for you?

Viewing how you're doing with habit tracking is cumbersome today.

Suggest a solution

A new view option that offers a plot (line, scatter, or bars) that only works with numerical values for the Y axis, and that could take dates or categorical variables on the X axis.

Command to log start and end based on current time

Actions

Explain the problem as you see it

It would be lovely to have a command that can add a Start date and an End date to a Date field based on the current date and time. It would be perfect to track start and end times when working on a task.

Why is this a problem for you?

I have to manually set the start and end times using the mouse.

Suggest a solution

Ideally, this could be done using the command line only, without having to interact with the mouse.
