Set and sort child nodes under parent by manual rank order

Actions

Explain the problem as you see it

I put the child task nodes of a parent project in order of their relative priority while in outline mode. When I used a search node to surface my project's tasks elsewhere, I expected that the order I set within the project would apply by default. Instead I can sort my tasks in any number of ways except their priority order.

Why is this a problem for you?

I have lots of lots of tasks within each project, and lots of projects within each area. I need to keep everything in a rank order that I set, so that everywhere I surface those nodes within their parent, I can focus on only the most important things.

Suggest a solution

Each child within a parent has a rank value among its siblings within that parent. When I change the manual order of those children in the parent in any context, Tana updates the rank value for each child.

If a node has more than one parent, then it has a rank among siblings with each parent.

Rank values can be alphanumeric and hidden by default, as they are in Jira, Airtable, and other systems where rank order is maintained.

Setting order of a list within a grouping, for example grouping by task status, the ranks of sibling nodes within a group change the least amount necessary to maintain the order within that grouping.
