Several improvements have been made to panels since this post was written, the sidebar now supports pinning nodes, and also Tabs have been introduced in Tana Desktop: https://tana.inc/articles/tabs-and-panels-in-tana-desktop
Thanks for the update @Ingrid Ødegaard! I didn't know about pinning. Will check it out today!
